BLUE LOBSTER RESTAURANT SINGAPORE
It's a nice enough place - actually, surprisingly nice, given the very dark and unassuming exterior. The tables are mainly booths with drapes or high-backed benches, which give good privacy and a cosy atmosphere; pity about the mahjong paper over the tablecloths, though. I suppose it is a practical touch, and the crayons for scribbling are a friendly thought.
Positioning itself as an one-stop shop for your seafood needs, Blue Lobster offers both restaurant dining as well as live seafood and gourmet food products for takeaway. Western and Chinese seafood dishes are on offer, with the menu divided into those two distinct sections. The restaurant is long and narrow, with a mixture of booths and tables, and nicely decorated with a marine theme. On the whole service is good, but the food fails to match up. It tends to be heavy on grease, low on taste and lacking in character. It is regrettable that a restaurant that puts so much effort into its setting and concept delivers only mediocre food. The best thing this restaurant has going for it is that it allows BYO with no corkage.

Service-wise, staff are friendly but could do better. To start off your meal, try a Seared Sea Scallops with Prawns ($19). Succulent scallops seared in spices lay atop a mango salsa with a fillet of sweet prawn, drizzled in a wasabi sauce and black caviar. This three-tiered, small portioned wonder screams of freshness and flavour. Blue Lobster has an impressive and exquisitely created menu for the mains as well as desserts. The Live Lobster Spaghetti ($39) prepared in a champagne sauce is a definite must try. A large red broiled lobster sits seductively on top of a bed of spaghetti. Combined with a sweet, creamy champagne sauce, this dish is a sinfully delightful combination, which teases patrons to indulge in more with each successive bite. The spaghetti comes in a serving fit for a romantic meal for two.
